Amit Shah Reveals Kerala was Given Early Warning on Deadly Landslides, 9 NDRF teams sent early to Kerala !

Union Minister Amit Shah said in Parliament today that on July 23, the Kerala government was given an early warning about predicted landslides. On Tuesday, landslides destroyed the Wayanad district, killing over 150 people and injuring 200 more. Rescue efforts are underway for 180 additional people who are missing.

The Home Minister said that the Centre alerted the Pinarayi Vijayan-led Kerala government about the landslides in Wayanad a week before they occurred, and that the Centre had despatched nine NDRF teams to Kerala when heavy rainfall was anticipated in the south.

Amit Shah Reveals Early Warning for Kerala Landslides!

“Nine NDRF teams were assigned to Kerala in advance, The Kerala government did not evacuate people in time,” Amit Shah stated in the Rajya Sabha.

“India is among four countries that can provide warning on natural disasters at least seven days in advance,” Amit Shah Said in Rajya Sabha

Amit Shah also stated that if the Kerala government had become more aware following the presence of NDRF teams, the number of casualties caused by landslides may have been reduced.

“The Narendra Modi government is standing like a rock with the Kerala government and the people to deal with the Wayanad tragedy,” Amit  Shah added.

Union Minister George Kurian, who visited Wayanad on Tuesday night, had stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is closely following the situation.

“The issue is being closely monitored by the central government at the highest levels. The Honorable Prime Minister is keeping an eye on the issue and has asked me to visit the affected districts. Both Ministry of Home Affairs control rooms are monitoring the situation 24×7, and offering all available help to the state,” he stated.

The Army and the Air Force are also engaged in rescue efforts. Two columns of army personnel and two IAF helicopters have been deployed. Additionally NDRF, SDRF and a dog squad are assisting rescue operations.

On rainfall warning for Karnataka, CS Patil, Director, IMD Bengaluru says, ” ‘Red’ alert issued in Dakshin Kannada districts today. On August 1 & 2, ‘Orange’ alert for heavy rainfall issued in Dakshin Kannada districts. Coastal Karnataka is expected to experience widespread rainfall in the next 5 days. ”
