Haryana: Vinesh Phogat Joining Congress !
On Friday (August 23), Vinesh Phogat, a well-known Indian wrestler, met with Congress politician Bhupinder Singh Hooda at his house. The image of their meet emerged on social media, hinting that the Indian grappler could join Congress, just days after an IANS report said she could contest in the Haryana Assembly elections. Notably, the Vidhan Sabha elections in Haryana have been scheduled to take place on October 1.
Hooda, who is currently the leader of the opposition in the Haryana Legislative Assembly, has made a significant statement about the wrestler. During an interview with news agency ANI, Hooda stated, “It is a hypothetical issue. However, athletes do not belong to a single political party; rather, they represent the entire country. If anyone attends the party, you will get to know…We welcome anyone to the party…but this is a hypothetical question. It depends on her. She is currently dealing with an unfair situation. She deserves to be honoured. She should be nominated for Rajya Sabha.”

Vinesh Phogat Should Be Nominated To Rajya Sabha As Sachin Tendulkar: Hooda
“I had argued that she should be honored in the same way that a gold medalist is. She wasn’t given that. The government stated that she would receive a Silver medal. I had argued that she, like Sachin Tendulkar, should be nominated to the Rajya Sabha. “Injustice has been done to her, and she has not received justice,” the former Haryana Chief Minister added.
While Vinesh Phogat’s meeting with Bhupinder Hooda made rumors that the wrestler might join Congress, there has been no official confirmation. The 29-year-old athlete’s fairytale run to the Women’s 50 Kg Freestyle wrestling final, followed by her disqualification ahead of the gold medal battle due to being 100 grams overweight, became one of the major stories of the Paris Olympics 2024.
Vinesh denied the verdict at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), but her appeal was denied.
